Admission Requirements
Individuals applying to the Graduate Certificate Program must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and a valid teaching license in Elementary Education (e.g., Grades K-6) or Middle Grades Education (Grades 6-8), with certification in Middle Grades Mathematics.

If you have a Master’s Degree already in an Elementary or Middle Grades Education. |
You can apply and complete the Graduate Certificate in Elementary Mathematics. |
If you do not have a Master’s Degree in Elementary or Middle Grades Education, you have two options. |
You can apply and complete only the Graduate Certificate in Elementary Mathematics OR apply and complete the Masters in Elementary Education (MEd.) with a concentration in Mathematics. |
Admission to the Graduate School
All students must apply to the UNC Charlotte Graduate School.
Clinical Requirements
Some of these courses have clinical requirements related to working with elementary grades students and elementary grades teachers.
Program Completion Requirements
The North Carolina Board of Education has approved this state-wide license with the following requirements:
- Successful completion of all six courses with a grade of B or better
- Successful completion of an exam of mathematics content and pedagogical knowledge
- Successful completion of a portfolio of artifacts from all six courses
- At least 3 years of classroom teaching experience by the completion of program
